Summit Overview

The PASA CPO Summit will bring together procurement leaders from across the ANZ region for two days of learning, exploration, sharing and ‘real’ networking. The programme features diverse keynote presentations, personal development workshops and round-table discussions on key issues facing procurement leaders today. Networking is also a key element of the event, with time built into the programme for CPO’s to schedule meetings with other participants and for more informal networking at the various refreshment breaks, and of course the CPO Summit Dinner.

Future Proofing You

In a world where change is happening at an unprecedented pace, where what was certain is now uncertain, where volatility is everywhere, where advances in technology are almost impossible to keep up with and the demands on CPO’s and their teams grow ever more complex, you need to take some time to ensure that you are equipping yourself for the future. The CPO Summit theme – ‘Future Proofing You’ – has guided the development of the conference programme. There are sessions that will inspire and coach you as leaders, not of procurement necessarily, but as business leaders. There are sessions focussed on new business trends and technologies, that as a business leader, you should be cognisant of. And of course there are plentiful opportunities to address the biggest procurement challenges of the day, either formally through the round-table discussions, or informally during the extensive networking opportunities.

All of which are designed to ‘Future Proof You’ personally and professionally.


Programme Structure

For all keynote sessions and networking breaks, all delegates will be together. However, delegates will have an option during other parts of the programme to either participate in round-table discussions or an interactive workshop. If you elect to do one of the workshops, please note that this means that you will miss the two round-table discussion topics that are running concurrently with it.

Round-table Sessions with a Purpose

Rather than just be a ‘talk-fest’ the round-tables will work towards answering some of the biggest challenges facing the profession today. The format will see groups of 7-8 discussing the questions at their table with the outputs of their discussions then being shared with the other tables during a facilitated cross-room discussion led by a facilitator. The outputs of the discussions will be captured and summarised for presentation to the entire group during the closing plenary session.


Workshops

The workshops programme focusses on developing your skills as a leader, manager and influencer. They will be interactive sessions during which you will have your current thinking challenged, while having some fun along the way.

Networking

A key element of any event like this is the networking opportunities it affords. To facilitate more effective networking, we will be providing all delegates with access to an app, that not only allows you to see who else is attending, but, if you wish, to schedule some time to meet during the two days. This may be with other CPO’s or participating sponsors. It is purely up to you. There are of course plenty of opportunities for networking during the various refreshment breaks and of course the conference dinner, at which we will have entertainment designed to delight and intrigue.

How do we build value adding relationships with monopolistic/duopolistic suppliers, when you are the price taker due to low volume and there is limited competition due to low number of players in the market?     There is a fairly widely held view that procurement has gone backwards in recent years in regard to how it is perceived by the C-suite, with validation primarily returning to measures of price down/cost out only? Q. How much truth is there in this statement? Q. As the procurement function matures within an organisation, how do we continue to add (and be recognised for adding) value as savings become harder to achieve? Q. Are we limited to delivering savings through contract and rate negotiations with suppliers, or is their greater accountability beyond supply such as through demand reduction projects, cost structure transformation projects, product & brand impact projects?     Should you be worried about progress in Artificial Intelligence? Will Artificial Intelligence destroy jobs? Should we fear killer robots? Does Artificial Intelligence threaten our very existence? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is in the zeitgeist. Billions of dollars are being poured into the field, and spectacular advances are being announced regularly. Not surprisingly, many people are starting to worry where this will all end. The Chief Economist of the Bank of England predicted that Artificial Intelligence will destroy 50% of existing jobs. Thousands of Artificial Intelligence researchers signed an Open Letter predicting that Artificial Intelligence could transform warfare and lead to an arms race of "killer robots". And Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk and others have predicted that Artificial Intelligence could end humanity itself. What should you make of all these predictions? Should you worry? Are you worrying about the right things? And what should we do now to ensure a safe and prosperous future for all?

    Daily, in the press and our social media feeds, we read about blockchain and how it is going to change the world. Much of the focus has been on Bitcoin and other digital currencies that depend on blockchain technology, but increasingly we are hearing more about how blockchain will revolutionize supply chains and industries ranging from finance to health. With words like "trust" and concepts such as ‘smart contracts’ being talked about what does blockchain really mean for organisations. In this keynote, we will aim to demystify blockchain by answering questions around what it is, what it isn’t, where it is going and how and when it is likely to start impacting you and your business.
